Throwing Doubles is part of Moda Operandi's largest curated capsule to date. Club Moda La Isla launched today on Moda Operandi, and tucked into the 425-piece, 68-designer lineup are two pieces from our atelier: a travel backgammon board and a leather playing card set in a custom Italian leather colorway, made exclusively for the capsule. Here's what we made, why we made it, and where you can shop it.
The Pieces: A Backgammon Board and a Playing Card Set in Italian Leather
For Club Moda La Isla, we created two travel-ready pieces in a custom colorway exclusive to Moda Operandi: a kiwi green, cobalt blue, and camel Italian leather backgammon board, and a matching leather playing card set in the same palette.
The colorway came directly out of Moda's mood board for the capsule, a Mediterranean palette pulled straight from a long, slow afternoon in the Cyclades. Kiwi green for the citrus light, cobalt blue for the water, camel for the sun-bleached limestone you find on every island terrace from Hydra to Capri.
Both pieces are constructed from the same Italian leather we use across our travel backgammon boards and leather playing card sets. The difference here is the colorway, and the fact that the run is one-time only.
How a Greek Island Mood Board Became Italian Leather
"When Moda came to us, they had this incredible mood board," our founder Brittany Chadwick told WWD. "The energy around La Isla was so specific and evocative."
The brief was '70s Ibiza by way of Hydra by way of every Italian villa weekend you've ever wanted: fluid, hedonistic, a little bit louche. Our work was to translate that mood into a game set, something a guest could carry from the pool to the dinner table to the after-hours patio without breaking the spell.
Translating mood into Italian leather takes time. We built these pieces in close collaboration with Moda's team, working months ahead of launch to get the leather tones, the case construction, and the finish exactly right. For a longer look at how our Italian-made boards come together, our piece on handcrafted leather backgammon boards is a deeper read.
Inside Club Moda La Isla: Moda Operandi's Largest Capsule Yet
This is the fifth year of Moda Operandi's Club Moda program, and per April Hennig, Moda's president, this capsule is "our most expansive collection to date." 425-plus pieces. 68 designers. Ready-to-wear, accessories, beauty, and home, all built around what Hennig describes as "diaphanous sheers, light-catching paillettes, fluid lamé and swaying fringe meet hypnotic, sun-drenched prints and alluring silhouettes."
The lineup pulls in Rabanne, Christopher Esber, Des Phemmes, Missoni, Rosie Assoulin, De La Vali, Conner Ives, and a Pucci debut on the platform. On the accessories side: Christian Louboutin's Vaporetta sandals, Spinelli Kilcollin fine jewelry, and beaded mini totes from emerging Mediterranean labels.
The campaign was photographed by Haris Farsarakis at the One&Only Aesthesis on the Athenian Riviera, an apt choice, given that Moda has also bundled in an exclusive three-night Pool Suite stay at the property for clients who want to live inside the capsule for a few days.
Where to Shop the Throwing Doubles La Isla Pieces
Both the La Isla backgammon board and the La Isla playing card set are available exclusively on Moda Operandi. They are not sold on our site, and they are not coming back. The kiwi-cobalt-camel colorway lives only in this capsule.
Pricing across the full Club Moda La Isla collection ranges from $55 to $33,000. Past Club Moda capsules have sold through almost immediately, with demand outpacing supply well beyond launch. So if you're planning to gift either piece this summer (or, more honestly, keep it on your own coffee table), now is the time.
The La Isla capsule joins a small handful of curated retailer collaborations we've done. For context, our Monday Swimwear collab was a similar exercise in matching a brand's specific mood to a leather game set. Each one is its own small love letter to a season, a destination, or an aesthetic.
This one is Greece in July. Pour something cold, sit down to a game, and we'll see you on the other side of the summer.

What inspired the kiwi, cobalt and camel colorway?
